Youth Protection Youth protection training is required for all adults whom have contact with youth in the Scouting program. Youth protection training is designed to familiarize adults with proper procedures to establish boundaries that ensure a safe program for both youth and adults. There are also Venturing-age specific materials that should be reviewed, especially for advisors of co-ed units. Youth protection training also provides an introduction to recognizing child abuse. In many states Venturing (Scout) leaders are classified as mandatory reporters just like classroom teachers. YPT training explains how to recognize abuse and how to report it properly. A third component of youth protection training is for the youth. The youth component illustrates what healthy relationships should be and what is not acceptable. The training curriculum is interactive and may be completed on-line via a link from your local council's website. Also a series of videos are available for showing at meetings. It is highly encouraged that annually, each unit should show the youth protection videos. Venturing Specific Youth Protection Materials
