Kandersteg International Scout Centre

The Kandersteg International Scout Centre serves as the permanent "mini-jamboree" for the World Organizations of the Scout Movement (the global secretariat of Scouting). The centre is located in the scenic Bernese Oberland of Switzerland. The facility is composed of an entirely international staff and welcomes Scouts from throughout the world to it's facilities.

The program for units that come is vast and varied. Since the centre is open all year, a crew could come during the summer, hike in the Swiss Alps, go orienteering, rock climb, go river rafting, mountain biking, stone carving, swimming, camp at the campsite, or stay in an Alpine hut. Other popular activities include taking day trips to see other parts of Switzerland and Italy.

The fun is not limited to the summer! A unit can also participate in Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing (cross country), snowboarding, curling, ice skating, sledging (tobogganing), relaxing in a Finnish sauna, and stay in the chalet.

Kandersteg is easily accessible. The Scout centre is only little more than a mile from the Kandersteg train station. There are numerous train connections daily to both the Geneva and Zurich airports. Travel time is about three hours.

Then why not be part of the Staff Team at Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC)? The staff are a team of international volunteers, Scouts and Guides, who run the World Centre in Switzerland. Working in KISC is an amazing experience. It is a chance to explore the Alps and make life long friends; while all the time having fun!

Every 3 months a new group of Scouts arrive at the Centre as strangers and leave, 3 months later, as friends. These volunteers are known as Short Term Staff (STS) and work in every area of the Centre, helping where needed. The next round of applications for Short Term Staff is due on June 15th to begin work on September 13th. The Autumn Staff will be involved in all aspects of running the Chalet, catering for anything up to 250 guests, maintenance of buildings and campsite as well as running activities for
Scouts and Guides from all around the world.
